Dear 6th, 7th and 8th grade families,
Hello it was wonderful to see and talk with you at the Catholic Schools Week Mass and Open House! I enjoyed looking at the students’ various projects in the different rooms; it was an excellent display of work!
In History this month, the 6th grade students will study Ancient Greece and Rome. They will focus on the Geography of Greece and Greek politics, society and culture. They will read and analyze the history of Ancient Rome, Roman life and the early spread of Christianity. They will study Cultural Blending and Isolation. They will read and analyze cultural changes in Africa and Asia.
In History, the 7th grade students will study the emerging empire of China, the flowering of Chinese culture and the growth of the economy. They will focus on Japan, the development of the national culture, unification versus isolation and the power of the Shoguns. They will study feudal Europe after the Roman Empire.
In History, the 8th grade students will study the Industrial Revolution. They will analyze westward expansion, building national unity and how technology evolved and changed. They will focus on democracy in the Age of Jackson. They will analyze the struggles over states’ rights.
In Religion, the 6th grade students will reflect upon and write about their love for God and one another. They will study and examine different forms of prayer. They will read and study scripture- the Books of Wisdom. They will read and study People of Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer.
In Religion, the 7th grade students will study and reflect upon the Living Faith in Jesus. They will study, analyze and reflect upon people of Faith, the life of Grace and growing in Love Inaction. They will focus on and reflect upon the transfiguration and the journey through life until death.
In Religion, the 8th grade students will study the Mystery of the Church. They will examine the roots and foundation of the Church and Jesus’ community of disciples. They will discuss and reflect on being people of prayer and service.
The middle school students will continue to utilize Common Core standards and skills for academic development. They will continue to cite text to analyze primary and secondary sources. The students will decide upon central ideas and summarize informational sources. They will identify steps in texts’ descriptions. The students will determine the meaning of words and distinguish facts from opinions.
